Austria's oldest wheat beer brewery - Die Weisse has had this title since the brewery was founded in 1901. In Germany, wheat beer has a much older tradition, whereas in Austria full-bodied bock beers were preferred until the turn of the century. Adelbert Behr from Die Weisse set an example with his fluffy wheat beer and ended the sole rule of bock beer in Austria. Berliner or Münchner Weisse were yesterday, from now on there was also the Salzburger Weisse!
Tradition meets innovation
Despite a hundred years of brewing history and the constant change in the beer business, Die Weisse still values tradition. The good wheat beer has always been brewed according to Adalbert Behr's recipe and using traditional methods. The naturally cloudy wheat beer is made from the best regional ingredients and is allowed to mature into its most delicious version in the bottle after the brewing process. In order to meet the growing demands of modern beer connoisseurs, people are friendly towards progress. The gluten-free organic wheat beer is the perfect symbiosis of tradition and modernity and an excellent beer that allows allergy sufferers to enjoy beer.
Felix Gmachl is the brewery's brewery and a master brewer with a vision. After completing his training, the young brewer went out into the world to expand his wealth of experience. With his creations he clearly borders on industrially manufactured beers, quality and excellent taste are his greatest concerns. The basis of its success is the skillful networking of traditional craftsmanship with innovative ideas.
Family with a vision
With products such as the Bio-Weissen and the alcohol-free Bio-Weissen, the Salzburg brewers demonstrate their keen sense for the beer market and always stay up to date with their creations. Die Weisse has been owned by the Gmachl family since 1987, who first extensively renovated and expanded the more than 100-year-old brewery. A modern brewhouse with a malt store and fermentation cellar brought the brewery up to date, and the Sudwerk music bar complemented the previous gastronomic offer. At the Gmachls, you can enjoy excellent beer in a rustic atmosphere and experience the skillful combination of innovation and tradition live. The tastefully furnished guest rooms are a hip mix of a cozy pub atmosphere and modern gastronomy concept - so a visit is not only worthwhile for the delicious beer!
So if you want to taste a real rarity in Austria's strong beer-heavy beer landscape, we recommend the Bio Weisse from Gmachl!
