In Franconia and Bavaria, many breweries have a Leonhardi Bock in their range. This seasonal specialty is brewed in honor of Saint Leonhard and tapped in November. In the Catholic faith, Leonhard is one of the Holy Helpers and is worshiped as the patron saint of livestock, farmers, locksmiths, blacksmiths and miners.
The Autenrieder brewery also has a Leonhardi Bock on offer, but this is not brewed in the name of Saint Leonhard. Instead, the beer’s title refers to Leonhard Feuchtmayr, the father of today’s senior boss. This venerable gentleman not only gives the goat his name, he also created it. The recipe for the strong beer came from his pen and is brewed in the same way to this day. The malty Bock is stored in the brewery’s cellar for at least 100 days: During this time, the exquisite drop develops its powerful character, which is peppered with full-bodied notes of caramel and grain. The stately 7.7% alcohol content rounds off the pleasure experience with a warming fire.
The Leonhardi-Bock from Autenrieder flows at an optimal temperature of 10 to 12 °C in a golden shimmering chestnut brown into the glass and is crowned with delicately tinted foam. Scent and taste deliver a sensual composition of intense malt, creamy toffee, spicy honey and fine notes of sherry.
