With their beer avatar, the brewers of the Dutch brewery Oedipus are trying to create a kind of double reality: While you are enjoying the fine India Pale Lager and discovering the diverse taste nuances, you should experience a different version of yourself at the same time. We’re not sure how exactly this is supposed to work, but the beer in question has definitely succeeded and works in that it tastes simply delicious.
Avatar has a palatable 4.5% alcohol content and the bitter units are also in a pleasant, dangerously drinkable range. The brewers have chosen two hop varieties with a particularly distinctive profile and worked out every single flavor component of these. The two dominant notes are juicy mandarin and sun-ripened melon, responsible for this are Mandarina Bavaria and Huell Melon. A good portion of malt is supportive and shaping.
The result flows into the glass in rich, tarnished gold, a crown of thick, non-slip foam sits enthroned on the cloudy body. The avatar from Oedipus exudes a light-footed hop aroma, which combines in the nose with strong malt to form a tempting bouquet. The initial taste follows the olfactory first impression and initially builds up a stable malt base. The hops turn on during the drinking pleasure and contribute harmonious notes of tangy citrus fruits and ripe melon.
