The Dutch vocabulary offers some treasures that charm us with their sound, their spelling or their meaning. Speelkasteel is one of those words. The expression has no clear translation in German, but roughly speaking it means something like "Spielburg". What is meant is a climbing frame in the style of a castle with a slide, ladders, climbing facilities and the like.
The Utrecht brewery vandeStreek has a Speelkasteel on offer that is not at all suitable for children, but is all the more fun for adults: Their play castle is a Belgian-inspired Wit with 0.0% alcohol that will make you jump in the air with its ravishing taste will animate.
The non-alcoholic beer specialty is presented in a delicate lemon yellow in the glass and shows a pink sheen when exposed to light. A tantalizing scent of creamy blossom honey, subtle pineapple and white tea rises from the airy head of foam. A touch of malt rounds off the first olfactory impression. The initial taste reveals a slim body with a light-footed character and refreshing aromas. Soft malt, floral hops, spicy honey, juicy pineapple, ripe banana and some tea combine to form a complex mixture. Hints of orange and fine bitterness round off the taste harmoniously.
The alcohol-free Wit from vandeStreek is a light, flaky refreshment for in between.
