San Miguel is a brewery, but the international company can almost be described as an empire. The company's beer is sold all over the world and is one of the best-known brews of all. You can also hear the name in sports: the brewery sponsors more than just one team and supports teams in basketball, soccer and volleyball. Although San Miguel sounds Spanish, the company is originally from the Philippines. Today, the beer is not only drunk all over the world, it is also brewed at various locations in order to avoid long transport routes and to be able to guarantee the customer the freshest possible product.
It all started in 1889 when a wealthy businessman from Manila set his mind to making his own beer. He had left his Spanish homeland to do business in exotic Asia and wanted to use his beer to bring a little bit of home away from home. Because his brand new company was located in Manila's San Miguel district, the name was quickly found. The brewery was also opened on Saint Michael's Day, September 29, for luck, good business and God's blessings. The company had two main branches: ice cream and beer. As the first brewery in Asia, San Miguel used the latest technology and was therefore able to score with incomparable quality. The range included three classics that sold like hot cakes. Because the Philippines offered a rather limited beer market, the management of the company decided to go into export and implemented this plan in 1914. Beer conquered the entire Asian region and then also the United States at the beginning of the 20th century. The foundation stone for today's success was laid and San Miguel had established itself as a permanent fixture on the international beer market.
In order to keep its finger on the pulse even after more than 130 years of brewing history, the company invests in social and ecological causes. Since 2003 there has been a beer on offer in Spain that is made from organic raw materials. San Miguel is also involved in professional sports: numerous teams are sponsored and financially supported by the Group. The number one priority, however, is the beer. Using well-tried recipes and state-of-the-art brewing technology, exquisite ingredients are used to produce tasty brews that are distinguished by their aroma and character. Depending on the region and country, there are very different variants, but an absolute classic in the range is San Miguel Especial .
