After traditional family breweries were threatened with extinction for a long time because there were no offspring, the turning point took place some time ago: More and more young people are interested in the brewing trade and are ready to follow in the footsteps of their parents, grandparents and ancestors further back. In the past, the succession was mainly reserved for the sons of a family, today the daughters are also at the top. One of these motivated and beer-loving women is Lorenza Günther, who runs the Günther-Bräu together with her father.
The brewery in Burgkunstadt in Upper Franconia was founded by two brothers. Johann and Georg Günther had an inn in town and in 1840 they began brewing the beer for the inn in the town's communal brewery. There used to be such communal brewhouses in many places and residents could register there to brew beer for their own use or business under the supervision of a master brewer. The next generation of the Günther family then decided that they needed their own brewery: the demand had been steadily increasing and they decided to purchase a brewing system and from then on to brew beer on their own facility. This decision dates back four generations. In the course of this time, the brewery went through ups and downs, renovations and modernizations, but the Günthers have retained their values and the high quality standards. After a comprehensive renovation in 2005, the company is also geared towards sustainability. In addition to production that is as environmentally friendly and resource-saving as possible, regionality is also important to the family. Their raw materials are handpicked and sourced locally as far as possible. As Franconians, they draw from the full: the rolling hills of the region are sun-drenched and produce the best grain, the purest water is obtained from the springs and the hop-growing areas of Spalt and Hallertau are right around the corner.
The beer, which is brewed from the finest ingredients, is subject to the specifications of the Bavarian Purity Law and is therefore made exclusively from hops, malt, yeast and water. Traditional craftsmanship is held in high esteem at Günther: the master brewers draw on the rich wealth of experience from the centuries-old brewing history of their homeland. The brewery's range consists of a number of classic Franconian beer creations that score with character and down-to-earthness. You will look in vain for unusual extra ingredients and crazy beer styles here, but the Günther Bräu will be happy to pour you an excellently brewed Pilsner or serve its wonderful dark Franconian country beer, which goes perfectly with hearty dishes.
Everyone in the Günther family lends a hand. Team spirit and cohesion have top priority and are a wonderful basis for the best beer.
