There are things in life that are best enjoyed in pairs: Weisswurst and wheat, peanut butter and jam, wine and cheese, milk and biscuits, loud music and beer. The latter is a particularly good match and the lucky reason why many bands not only make excellent music, but also excellent beer.
The Californian punk band Pennywise is one of the multi-talented multitaskers among the musicians. Together with the Lost Coast Brewery from Eureka, California, the band has created a beer that goes fabulously with the hard sounds of their songs. Pennywise was founded in 1988 by Jim Lindberg, Jason Thirsk and Fletcher Dragge and is assigned to the genre of Melodic Hardcore. The band's success broke the boundaries of California shortly after they were founded and today the albums are sold all over the world. The band went through several changes of lead singer, but ended up again with Jim Lindberg, who was there from the beginning. The group suffered a great loss when founding member and bassist Jason Thirsk died unexpectedly in 1996. His inconsolable colleagues dedicated a song to him, which is the end of every concert to this day. The Bro hymn is a tribute to Jason Thirsk and proof of eternal friendship.
The beer equivalent of the Bro hymn is Pennywiser , which the band created with the Lost Coast Brewery. The drinkable Session IPA is the perfect companion to the rough music of the band and is also served at the concerts. The beer is cold-hopped with the highly aromatic hops Cascade, Chinook, Crystal and Citra and delights with a strong hops character that caresses the palate with citrus freshness and a refined range of hops. Without a doubt, the juicy IPA tastes best when you stand in the front row between thousands of head-banging people with loud music in your ears and experience Pennywise live, but the Session IPA is also a delight at home on the sofa. In order to bring this culinary delight to Europe too, the band decided without further ado to found the Pennywiser Beer Company and to brew their beer directly on site under contract. Pennywiser conquered Europe from Dietzenbach in Germany. This eliminates the previously long transport route from the USA across the pond, which not only benefits the price, but also the quality of the beer.
With their own beer, Pennywise follows in the footsteps of great music legends like Iron Maiden or Metallica, who also created a hoppy drink to go with their music.
