Courage is the basis of all great achievements and was also necessary when the Elch-Bräu was founded: In times of large breweries and industrially produced beer, opening a small, private brewery is a risk. However, the risk of failure did not stop the Kugler/Seitz family from doing anything. Her daring is still paying off today.
Brewing has probably been going on for more than 400 years at the site where the Seitz inn and Elch-Bräu are located today. The first documented mention came in the late 18th century, but there are indications that there was a baker, an inn and a brewery with malting and distillery in Thuisbrunn. The brewery existed into the 20th century, but then the streak of success broke and the mash paddle was given up. In 2002, the Kugler family decided to continue the tradition of brewing in their home town and resume brewing in Thuisbrunn. Since then, Georg Kugler and his team have been providing a wide range of handcrafted beer specialties that not only inspire visitors to the inn: wheat beer, Pils and Co. also score well in international competition and are repeatedly recognized with awards such as the European Beer Star .
You can experience beer as a living cultural asset on the route between Weißenohe and Thuisbrunn: Five breweries that have joined forces for a joint project are located along the ten-kilometer route. The high concentration of breweries in the region is a global specialty and an attraction that the innkeepers of the local breweries wanted to draw attention to. After one or the other round table, the brewers from five breweries decided to set up a brewery hiking trail. The idyllic landscape with rolling hills, dense forests and lush meadows between Weißenohe and Thuisbrunn was the perfect basis for this project, the five breweries in between were the icing on the cake. For more than ten years now you have been able to hike the Fünf-Seidla-Steig® and refresh yourself with the brewing specialties from five different breweries. There is a stamp card that is stamped by the innkeepers and at the end you can use the full card to buy the Fünf-Seidla-Steig® mug at a reduced price. Hiking through Franconian Switzerland on a sunny day is a pleasure in itself, but when you're treated to the finest beer, it becomes a real treat!
Whether you drink the fine beers from the Elch-Bräu on the hiking trail or at home - they taste great on every occasion!
