The Kuchlbauer brewery from Bavaria is a real surprise bag: good beer, art and charity can be found here under one roof. A heart project is the support of the SOS Children's Villages. With the proceeds from its Kuchlbauer visitor foundation, the Kuchlbauer brewery even built an orphanage in Sri Lanka in 2011. Brewers with a heart of gold!
What is worth waiting for
The roots of the Kuchlbauer brewery go back to the year 1300. The right to brew beer was obtained here and beer began to be brewed for the Count of Abensberg. Since then, the principle "Beer is a luxury item that is not manufactured, but arises." Brewing takes place here in the original copper kettles from yesteryear and strictly in accordance with the specifications of the Bavarian purity law. The wheat beers are matured in a complex, but very gentle method: the young beer matures in the bottles in air-conditioned chambers for four weeks. Only then has it developed its full aroma and can be released. Located in the heart of the Hallertau, the Kuchlbauer brewery is right at the source when it comes to excellent hops. But the other raw materials are also selected and processed with care. This is how Kuchlbauer classics such as the Turm Weisse are created , which enjoy great popularity far beyond the borders of Bavaria.
Beer art
So far, art has only been found in connection with beer in the form of artistically designed labels on beer bottles. Kuchlbauer tops this and combines beer with beer in a completely new way. The Kuchlbauer tower is located in Abensberg, where the Kuchlbauer brewery works. This building was designed by the world-famous artist Friedensreich Hundertwasser and realized by his long-time friend and student Peter Pelikan. In Hundertwasser fashion, the building towers high into the sky and out on all sides. Crowned with a golden onion dome, the tower would be an eye-catcher even without the colorful details and stained glass panes. Organic shapes, dancing windows, curved lines and a playful dynamic are hallmarks of Hundertwasser and can also be found on the Kuchlbauer tower. However, what makes it unique in the world is its connection to beer. The Kuchlbauer tower is a beer art tower and is entirely dedicated to barley juice, both inside and out. From the dome to the tower cellar, everything revolves around beer and the interested visitor can learn everything about our favorite drink on a tour. And of course you can also drink beer here.
Art is fun this way!
