The flagship of the Liefmans brewery is their Kriek. The brewery has put its very own stamp on the typical Belgian classic and makes a Kriek that is enjoyed far beyond the borders of its home country. There are a variety of versions of the variety, including a special glühkriek , whose spicy aroma comes into its own when heated to a temperature of around 70 degrees.
The latest coup from the house of Liefmans is an aperitif. Elegantly named Fruitesse, the cherry red brew is made with beer and a selection of different fruit juices. The mixed drink contains juice from strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, elderberries and cherries. It is also aged on cherries to further intensify the summery aroma and gorgeous colour. The result is an absolute fruit bomb that scores with sparkling carbon dioxide, fruity sweetness and a refreshing character.
With its champagne-like perlage, deep red color and feather-light body, Fruitesse is the perfect aperitif. The brewery recommends drinking from bulbous glasses and suggests serving the beer over ice. Experimenters can even mix summery cocktails from the fruit explosion. This brew is certainly not for traditionalists, but everyone else might like the fiery red variety in the beer glass.
