This Brazilian beer classic from São Paulo goes back to a recipe from 1909 and has been sold under the name Brahma Chopp ever since. The first bottle of the cult beer was sold in 1934 and marked the beginning of a real success story.

The light lager presents itself in a crystal-clear gold tone in the glass and is crowned with a hand’s breadth of airy foam. A copper-red shimmer runs through the beer, which emanates a delicate scent of hops and sunny grain. The initial taste is delightfully fresh, revealing a crisp, clean mouthfeel. Grassy notes combine with floral hints, subtle lime, fruity acidity and a restrained bitterness to create a mild, calm beer enjoyment.

Incidentally, the brewery got caught in the crossfire some time ago when representatives of a multi-religious association noticed their name. Brahma is the designation for a Hindu god and should not be used for worldly goods, according to the association. The accusation of blasphemy was raised, but no legally valid judgment could be made to date. The actual origin of the name is not clearly documented: some sources attribute the title to Joseph Bramah, the inventor of the suction pump valve, others claim that Brahma combines the two words Brauhaus and Maschke (after founder Georg Maschke).
