America's west coast is known for its long sandy beaches, the easy-going lifestyle, the numerous surfers and its sunny cities. In the beer scene, this part of the United States is primarily associated with the smooth West Coast India Pale Ales. There has been heated competition between the two coasts for decades and it is still unclear who makes the better IPA. While the East Coast brews are characterized by their subtly composed balance between sweet malt and intense hops, the West Coast IPA focuses entirely on the green gold.
Like so many things, this decision is purely a matter of taste.
If you want to take a closer look at the West Coast candidates, you can start with the interpretation from Maisel & Friends. Although this beer does not come from the United States, it is based on the creations there. The tropical brew is intended to bring a piece of Californian attitude to life into the glass and achieves this goal with great fruit notes and a skilfully used bitterness. The flavor profile is made up of golden mango, ripe stone fruit, juicy orange and exotic passion fruit. A hint of pine resin and the aroma of freshly grated lemon zest harmoniously round off the bouquet. The bitterness provides contrast and character.
East Coast, West Coast, no Coast — the main thing is delicious!
