The Comet hop comes from the United States and was already cultivated in the 1960s. While many contemporary strains are brand new and only been grown for a few years, Comet has been around for more than 50 years and remains one of the most popular varieties of green gold to this day. It was crossed from an English variety and American wild hops and is characterized by its clear, crisp bitterness. It also enriches beers with a juicy potpourri of grapefruit zest, tangerine, lemongrass, black currant, apricot and pineapple. In addition to the fruity explosion, the hops also bring grassy hints and herbal notes into play.

A beer that focuses exclusively on the flavor components of this fine hop is Mücke’s Single Hop Comet. The craft brewery from the Ruhr area unlocks the full potential of the umbels by adding them at different stages of the brewing process. At the end there is a tasty beer that brings all facets of Comet into the glass.

Before you take your first sip, a fine scent of grapefruit, passion fruit and sweet malt fills your nose. The first drink follows this common thread and presents a symphony of juicy fruit, pine resin, herbs, citrus fruits, spicy yeast and palate-smacking malt. A well balanced bitterness accompanies the beer enjoyment.
