Because of its central location, mining, glassworks and its general wealth of resources, the Spessart has always been a busy region. Countless trade routes stretch across the low mountain range, some of them have existed for hundreds of years. Valuable goods were transported through the Spessart on roads and paths as early as the Middle Ages. In the 19th century there was a group that took advantage of this fact. The so-called Spessart robbers were sinister figures who attacked carriages and transport vehicles at regular intervals. Because the Spessart often changed its government affiliation in the past, prosecuting the thieves was quite difficult. The robbers were able to do their misdeeds with impunity and caused fear and terror among traders and transporters.
A much less terrifying breed of robbers comes from the Spessart brewery: Based on the turbulent past of their homeland, the company has created a series that tastefully improves the image of the Spessart robbers. The series consists of down-to-earth, handcrafted and regional beer creations and includes all the classics of their homeland with Pils, Festbier and Hellem.
The Pilsner is a traditional representative of its kind and, in addition to a moderate alcohol content of 4.9%, brings a slim, light-footed body to the glass. The aroma is characterized by finely tart hops and a subtle maltiness. Sweet, fresh acidity, tartness and bitterness are skillfully balanced.
