The exceptional Lithuanian brewery Sakiškių alus is known for its crazy creations: its range includes beer with beetroot , beer that tastes like gin and tonic and all sorts of other creative madness. So it’s no wonder that the latest project is also located far away from the limits of the Bavarian Purity Law. The chosen goal of the experiment was to create a beer that is as similar as possible to oven-fresh rye bread.

In fact, the resourceful brewers have succeeded: Their Bready Rye Ale is a chestnut-colored beer that not only smells like heavenly bread crusts baked in a stone oven, but also tastes just like that. In order to transport the full bread character into the beer, the brewers have taken a number of measures: In addition to the usual portion of malts and specialty malts, they also used malted rye and fermented rye malt. The rye crown is topped with a few loaves of dried rye bread in a fire oven. The result is a real rye bomb and the taste is reminiscent of a specialty from the Baltic States: Kvass is a sour drink that is made through the fermentation of bread. The Bready Rye Ale is a finely balanced masterpiece that combines great bread aromas with a subtle acidity, fine spiciness, beautiful bitterness and a soft sweetness. The hops skilfully rounds off the malty superiority and gives the liquid bread a crisp freshness.
