The Budapest brewery Monyo has a soft spot for rabbits. But instead of barn rabbits, brown hares, cut hares and nimble rabbits, the Hungarians have a colorful selection of dead, flying and cyber rabbits.
The latter is a very special species: half organic, half machine. A classic New England IPA is hidden in the tin, which is decorated with a futuristic-looking comic rabbit, which has been stuffed to the brim with hops. In the extremely effective process of dry hops, the aromatic essence of the green umbels is elicited without increasing the bitter units. At the end of this elaborate, but worthwhile process, there is a richly cloudy India Pale Ale with a wonderfully velvety mouthfeel and a juicy range of fruity fruit flavors.
Monyos Cyber Rabbit presents itself in a naturally cloudy amber tone in the glass and adorns itself with a white veil of delicate foam. The NEIPA is classic on the nose: large fruity notes, some freshly mown grass, resin and a touch of light malt. The initial taste follows this tempting prelude and caresses the palate with a soft malt base that tastes of oven-fresh cookies and sun-dried grain. The hops also provide a truckload of tropical fruits: passion fruit, peach, apricot, orange and tangerine complement the subtle malt with exuberant juiciness. A spicy note of pine resin and the crunchy bitterness harmoniously round off the play of aromas.
