Christmas pudding is a British specialty that, as the name suggests, is only available at Christmas. In contrast to the German pudding, this dish is not a creamy mixture of milk, sugar, starch and egg, but has a firmer, almost cake-like shape. The dish originated in the Middle Ages: Back then, the pudding was made from suet, dried fruit, all kinds of spices, meat and onions and was not only served at Christmas time. Only later did it become a sweet recipe for Advent. Today, fat, sugar and dried fruit are the main ingredients and the Christmas pudding is the star of Christmas Day.
