California is the place of longing for many: dream beaches meet a relaxed atmosphere, outstanding cuisine and good-humored, tanned people. The state on the west coast of the United States is a popular vacation destination and attracts surfers, sunbathers and beach beauties to the USA year after year. In addition to the breathtaking landscape, the region has a lot more to offer. Our favorite from the sunny state is definitely the beer: California is mainly known for its fine wine, but the beers of the west coast can also do something.

Probably the most famous beer style in California is the West Coast IPA: This interpretation of the classic India Pale Ales gives the traditional English beer a heavy hop kick. Big Shed Brewings’ Australian variant of a West Coast IPA is called Californicator and comes with 7.5% alcohol, an outrageous amount of hops and just as many bitter units. The brewers use both traditional and brand new hops and create a palette of flavors that ranges from citrus and passion fruit to stone fruits and spicy pine notes.

The successful beer specialty flows into the glass in a wonderfully cloudy, warm amber tone and adorns itself with a small crown of tinted foam. In terms of olfactory and taste, the beer scores with an abundance of refreshing fruit notes, which combine with caramel, pine resin and a crunchy bitterness to create an irresistible mixture.
