After their Russian Imperial Stout, matured in Tennessee Whiskey and Bourbon casks, was a great success in 2018, the brewers of the Hungarian brewery Horizont Brewing decided to include the complex beer specialty in their permanent range. The cask-aged beer appears in the Night Shift series and is one of many creations of the brewery refined in wooden casks.
A powerful strong beer serves as the basis, which owes its character, the wonderful color and the powerful aroma to ten different types of malt. This rich abundance of grain also gives the beer a silky-smooth, creamy mouthfeel and its massive stature. The stunning 13.0% alcohol content will turn your head and warm your body and soul with its fire.
The beer presents itself in a deep black mahogany brown and is decorated with a small crown of ivory-colored foam. A seductive roasted aroma wafts into the nose and mixes with vanilla, brown sugar, bourbon and a hint of liquorice to create an irresistible mixture. The initial sip reveals the voluminous body and puts the tongue and palate in an aromatic frenzy of joy that tastes of tenderly melting toffee, sun-ripened grain, spicy vanilla, oak and strong whiskey.
Not for the faint of heart, Horizon’s cask-aged Russian Imperial Stout is for fans of complex, challenging and flavorful beers.
