Steam beer is a top-fermented beer specialty, the name of which goes back to two different circumstances. Steam engines were still used to brew beer in the late 19th century. To show the world that their beer was brewed using the latest technology, the proud brewers gave their beer the name steam beer. The term continued to be used later, only now it no longer refers to the steam engines in the brewery but to the special fermentation process. Today, steam beer is called that because a real steam appears over the boiler during the fermentation process. Bursting foam bubbles are responsible for this delicate mist and give the beer its beautiful name.

A fine representative of the steam beers comes from the brewery on Kreuzberg: The brewers from the Franconian Hallerndorf produce their steam beer with fine wheat beer yeast. The specialty has a crisp 5.2% alcohol content and seduces with a harmony of spice, acidity, fruit and bitterness.

The golden cloudy beer exudes a wonderful aroma of grain, yeast braid, pear compote and grassy hops. The first impression is continued in terms of taste and caresses the palate with strong notes of yeast, sweet malt, grassy and fruity hops and a skilful balance of fresh acidity and pointed bitterness. The finish is malty and combines soft cereal notes with a tart bitterness.
