When Kasteel Brouwerij Van Honsebrouk brought out its very first specialty beer, it was only in 1955. This made the brewery an absolute pioneer when it came to special beers. The creation was called Bacchus Oud Bruin and was the first in a long line of fine beer creations under the Bacchus label. Today, in addition to the traditional Flemish brown beer, there is also a Kriek with cherries and a Framboise with raspberries in this series.

The original brew under the name Bacchus is a real Belgian classic: the brown beer from Flanders has been brewed for centuries. The Vanhonsebrouk family looked at the basic recipe of the home beer and made some subtle changes. The result is a dark beer that inspires with a skilful balance of sweet and sour components. Its character is similar to that of fine wine and combines the fruity acidity of the grape must with delicate notes of caramel and well-dosed roasted malt. In contrast to the conventional Flemish Oud Bruin, the acidity is well balanced and gives the beer its refreshing character and such a fine aftertaste that you want to unwrap the next bottle from its exquisite paper wrapper.

The creation brings a tasty 4.5% into the glass and scores with strong acidity, soft sweetness, pointed bitterness and a full-bodied lightness.
