Beer style: elderflower white

With hand-picked elderflowers from Lake Tegel.

For those who have only got to know elderberry in the form of syrup, juice or jelly, we strongly recommend the elderflower white from Schneeeule. The fine white was cold-fermented with the addition of countless elderflowers. This had two effects: Not only do the white blossoms give the beer its fine taste with their fruity floweriness, the wild yeasts adhering to the blossoms also contribute aroma.

This culmination of elderberry excellence tastes like early summer with all its colors: after the first dip in the still cool lake, after mild evenings lit by fireflies, after summer flower meadows and a barbecue with friends.

Translated into figurative language, this means the following: Otto, presented in cloudy gold in the glass, smells unmistakably of elderflowers, which mix in the nose with the fine notes of fresh fruit, mild malt and delicate citrus fruit. The initial sip confirms the olfactory first impression and indulges the tongue with clean elderflower, spicy yeast, a hint of white pepper and fruity notes of green apple, gooseberry and tangy lime.

Incidentally, the namesake of this fine beer specialty is Otto von Lilienthal. But because lilies do not taste as fine as elderflowers and are also poisonous, the exquisite beauties have been replaced by the classic elderberry bush. An extremely good decision!
