After the spruce, thanks to its fast growth and the beautiful, light grain, found its way into furniture in most of us, it is now also being used in culinary form: The organic Pils from the wood brew is based on the tree species native to Europe named and represents the stately conifer with a palatable 4.9% alcohol content and a wonderfully balanced taste.
Rico and Matzes spruce is brewed with the finest Pilsner malt from neighboring Bad Kreuznach and also contains hand-picked hops from the Eckert organic farm in Eckenthal. For their tasty pilsner, the two have chosen two aroma-intensive hops: Hallertauer Tradition brings spicy notes of orange, lavender and tea into play, while Ariana contributes fruity components that contain nuances of blackberry, peach, tropical fruit, pear and blackcurrant and that Beer also gives a resinous touch.
The result speaks for itself. The beer specialty presents itself in the glass, pale gold and shiny, and exudes a promising scent from a hand’s breadth of foam. The initial taste reveals a classic Pilsner character with great bitterness, gentle malt, strong tartness and a good portion of hops. The latter mixes up the interplay of aromas with fruity, resinous and slightly herbal components and makes the Pils a special beer enjoyment.
