The Nuremberg Christkindlesmarkt is an attraction that is known far beyond the borders of Franconia. The event, which takes place every year during Advent, most likely dates back to the time of the Reformation and today attracts more than two million visitors per season. Nuremberg’s main market is decorated with magnificently decorated stalls and Christmas trees and smells of roasted almonds, mulled wine, caramel apples, beeswax and the city’s popular gingerbread. Traditionally, the previously chosen Nuremberg Christkind opens the Christmas market in a solemn ceremony. This person dressed as an angel also gives the market its name. A main attraction of the Advent spectacle is the historic nativity scene, which shows the different stages of the Christmas story.
In addition to the sugary specialties and the obligatory Nuremberg bratwurst, the culinary highlights are also the beers, which are brewed especially for the occasion. A delicious example comes from the house of Tucher. Every year, the Nuremberg brewery taps the right beer just in time for the opening of the Christmas market. With an alcohol content of 5.7%, the Christmas beer warms the body and flatters the soul with full-bodied malt and a skilfully placed hint of hops. The copper-gold beauty ensnares the palate with a festive symphony of caramel, roasted malt, oven-fresh cookies, spicy straw and hearty grain. The hops form a finish that tastes fresh of grass and green apples.
