With the spread of craft beer, some old, traditional beer styles also grew in popularity. The Belgian triple is definitely one of these styles and has spread far beyond the borders of Belgium in recent years. Numerous craft brewers have the strong beer in their repertoire and appreciate the brew for its strong character and the soft, soul-flattering taste.
A favorite among the original Belgian triples is Straffe Hendrik from De Halve Maan. The beer was originally developed to celebrate a new statue in Bruges, but it was so delicious that the uniquely brewed festival beer was quickly made an integral part of the range. Today, Straffe Hendrik is one of the last triples ever to be brewed in the city center of Bruges.
Strong Hendrik flows into the glass in shining gold and adorns himself with a crown of fine-pored, dense foam. The amount of the finest specialty malts and the generous hops can already be guessed by the smell: light grain, oven-fresh biscuits and spicy honey meet fragrant hay, floral notes, earthy tones, intense yeast, playful fruit notes and warm spices. The olfactory first impression continues one-to-one in the taste and creates a holistic beer enjoyment that is fun from opening the bottle to the last sip.
