No effort is too much for the Hungarian brewers at Horizont Brewing to unlock the full potential of their beers. For the sake of their creations, the team is not afraid to use tons of raw materials, complicated processes and methods or plan lengthy storage times. The focus is on the outstanding taste and top quality of the beer, whatever the cost.
The beers from the Night Shift Series are particularly laborious and time-consuming: This series includes brewing pieces that are complex in themselves and, after completion, also matured for a while in disused schnapps barrels.
An absolute highlight among the Night Shift beers is the Barley Wine in the Vintage 2021 version, which was brewed with Tonka beans and refined in rum casks. After the brewing process, this fine drop fermented in steel tanks for two months before being stored in freshly emptied rum barrels for a period of 8 months and then aging in the bottle for a further two months. The result is an incredibly round, soft, velvety beer with a harmonious, complex and intensely flavored aroma. The Barley Wine presents itself in a copper shimmering chestnut tone in the glass and is crowned with a hand’s breadth of hazelnut-brown foam. Tonka, caramel, oak wood, rum, marzipan and roasted malt dominate in smell and taste.
